Frequently Asked Questions

What's the package system? How does your lesson program work?

Beginning January 1, 2024, all lessons (after the first evaluation) will be purchased as part of a package. All packages expire 3 months from the date of the first lesson in the package. These lessons do not have to be at the same time every week, or even on the same day. After your evaluation lesson, we will tell you what "level" lessons you should book for yourself. Typically each "level" has 3 or 4 lesson times each the week, determined by most students' availability. You can join any of these lessons through our online scheduling software, as long as you are 24 hours ahead of the lesson time. You may cancel any lessons you've scheduled, with no penalty, as long as you are 24 hours ahead of the lesson time. For no shows, or any cancellations within the 24 hour period, we cannot guarantee that we will fill the spot, and you will be billed for the lesson.

What package do I need?

If you ride once a week, you'll use 13 lessons in three months. That means in three months, you should go through a package of 12. Or you'll easily go through a package of 8 lessons, even if you cancel 4 or 5 times. If you ride twice a week, you could go through two packages of 12 lessons in three months, even if there are 2 weeks where you only ride once. If you want to ride every other week, you can still purchase a package of 4 lessons, and you'll go through them in two months.

Can I have private lessons? What happens if I'm the only one in a group?

Typically private lessons are for riders with their own horse, in training with us, in addition to their group lessons. If an intended group lesson happens to only have one rider on a school horse, it will last 30 minutes, and be billed as a group lesson, not as a private lesson. At this point, we intend to keep the first evaluation lesson (if on a school horse) billed as a group lesson as well.

Why can't I just pay when I feel like it?

After 25 years, we have re-written our policies in this way, because we do not want to chase people down for late payments or no shows. For a long time, we operated essentially on the honor system, since we don't have a full-time secretary, and we don't force instructors to collect payments. This became frustrating and tedious for us and for you, when it didn't work out as it should. We have adapted to a model that we believe will better suit all of us, so we can spend our time and energy on riding and teaching, not on logistics.

Why don't you take credit cards?

Because it would be more expensive for you if we did.
